Power for a new home, building or development

If you are constructing a new home, building or development within Energy Australia's  or Integral Energy's network distribution area, you will need to connect to the electrical infrastructure. Customers requiring connection to the electrical network are required to contribute to the cost of connection.

Depending on the size, location and additional electrical load required by the development, electrical infrastructure may need to be extended or upgraded to increase its capacity.

If the job is considered to be the increase of the infrastructure capacity, responsibility of Energy Australia or Integral, it is deemed a monopolised service and energy utility will carry out the work. The customer is then charged a standard regulated fee, as set by the utilities.

However if the customer is deemed responsible, the job becomes contestable and the customer manages the work and may choose any suitably accredited service provider to carry out the work.

Installation of the dedicated service line (overhead or underground) from the new premises to the street is considered a contestable job.

How do I get started ?

The first step is to notify your requirements to Energy Utility in your area as soon as possible by completing the 'Application For Connection' form. If the installation is one of the following types you must also complete and attach the Supplementary Application For Connection
.

  • New electrical work over 20kW;
  • Multiple living unit developments (more than 6 units);
  • For services greater than 100 Amps;
  • CT metered installations;
  • Rural or outlying areas;
  • HV installations requiring more than 100kW or additional load; and
  • Work where the proposed equipment may cause excessive fluctuation of voltage (eg. welders, x-ray machines)

Once you submit the appropriate forms, energy authority will review your requirements.

For further enquiries, please contact Integral Energy on 131 002.

or Energy Australia offices located at Oatley – 02 9585 5774, Wallsend – 02 4951 9930 or Muswellbrook 02 6542 9017.

It's your choice

Contestable work on Energy Australia's or Integral Energy's electrical network can be carried out by any suitably accredited service provider  (us) or Energy Authority.
